From Struggling to Smiling: How Strive Makes Math Click

“I hate math.” That’s how Maya introduced herself in her first Strive class.

She was 10, smart, creative but completely shut off when numbers showed up. When we dug deeper, we discovered something surprising:

She didn’t actually hate math.
She hated feeling inferior.
Maya had missed a couple of key concepts during online learning in COVID. So every new topic felt like building a tower on sand - wobbly, frustrating, and bound to collapse.

In her first class, her teacher at Strive ditched the worksheet. Instead, they opened a blank canvas and said:
“Let’s code your dream pet. But we’ll need some math to make it move.”
Suddenly, math had a purpose.

Equations weren’t abstract anymore - they controlled the pet’s jump height, speed, colour changes.
Maya was laughing.

Multiplying decimals.

All in the name of making her virtual dragon breathe fire.
